Linda Lee Mallonee

Linda Lee Mallonee passed away May 7, 2023, in Wichita Kansas.
She was born May 21, 1935, to Lester and Nelle Barrington. Her mother was a piano teacher and Linda studied piano and violin from a young age. She was a lifelong member of the University Friends Meeting.
Linda graduated from Wichita North High School in 1953 and attended Wichita University studying violin performance. She spent a summer at the prestigious Tanglewood festival under conductor Pierre Monteaux. In her senior year she became a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
During her college years, she met her future husband Donald W. Mallonee, an aircraft engineer. They were married on November 27, 1958.
Linda taught music at Haysville schools while working on her Masters in Music Education completing her degree after the birth of first son Philip.
Linda and Don had two other sons - Mark and Paul, which limited Linda’s teaching. She continued to play in the Wichita Symphony through the year 2000 and retired after 43 years with the symphony.
She was married to Donald for 63 years until his passing in 2021.Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Nelle; her father, Lester; her brother, Wayne; and her husband, Donald. She is survived by sons, Philip, Mark, and Paul; Seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in Linda’s name at University Friends Church, 1840 W. University St., Wichita, Kansas 67213.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at University Friends Church.
The family will have a visitation at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary located at 10515 W. Maple, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, May 19, 2023.
Linda inspired me to become a violinist. I was lucky enough to attend WSU and play in the Wichita Symphony for a very short time before leaving Wichita.
It was wonderful to rekindle our relationship later in our years. I will miss our phone calls!
