Robert "Rob" James Winters

Robert James Winters, known affectionately by all as Rob, passed away peacefully in Wichita, Kansas, on August 11, 2023, just shy of his 73rd birthday. Born on August 15, 1950, in Onaga, Kansas, Rob lived a life full of love, faith, and service to others.Rob is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Winters, with whom he just celebrated 28 years of marriage. His love and wisdom will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his three children: Leanne Purtell (Tom), Jared Winters, and Renee Powers (Seth), and his five grandchildren: Tyler Glass, Rachel Purtell, Christopher Winters, Kaden Winters, and Hayden Powers. Rob's witty spirit will also be remembered by his siblings: Curtis Winters, Colleen Burrichter, Kay Mangimelli, and Craig Winters.Rob's educational journey led him to Pittsburgh State University. From Pittsburg State University, Robert joined the Army and was called to serve his country in Vietnam. While serving Rob's father, Jack, suffered a heart attack. Rob was honorably discharged and returned to Onaga to help with the family farm. After starting his own family and moving to Hutchinson he began a successful career in aerospace where he was an Aircraft Manufacturing Supervisor for many years. His professional life, however, was only one facet of Rob's rich story. He was a man of many interests, passions, and talents. Rob was a car enthusiast and he put his handy skills to use in maintaining and restoring his classic Ford truck. He always enjoyed going for a ride, whether it was in the Miata or on his bicycle. His love for music spanned across genres, from classic rock to country, and he was known to be listening to tunes while working in his garage or garden. A fan of western movies, he found joy in the simple pleasure of a good story and the company of his loved ones.Rob was a faith-filled individual whose beliefs guided him throughout his life. He was a beacon of hope and resilience, always ready to lend a helping hand. For instance, Rob gave platelets to the Red Cross for many years, because he knew he could save lives. His intelligence was not only academic but also deeply rooted in understanding the human condition. He had a knack for solving problems, whether they were mechanical issues with a car or complex life situations. This made him a reliable confidante and advisor to his family, friends, and colleagues.In remembering Rob, we celebrate a life well-lived, characterized by a dedication to family, a commitment to service, and a joy for living. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Robert James Winters, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. His was a life marked by intelligence, handy skills, and a faith-filled spirit, and his impact will continue to resonate for generations to come.Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, August 18, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. I am so sad to hear about Rob passing. S0 glad you guys came to the class reunion in May. It was great to be able to spend some time with you guys. I know he will be very missed by many.
We were Onaga High classmates and St Vincent de Paul Church activities buddies.
