Portia Morton

Portia Ann Morton found peace in Heaven on September 6, 2023 in the comfort of her home in Lenexa, KS. Portia unexpectedly slipped away in her sleep and felt no pain. She was 29 years old. Portia was born in Salina, KS on January 25, 1994. She was the second daughter to Paul and Kim Morton. Portia has an elder sister, Zoey, and younger sister, Allegra. She was known as the peacemaker, comedian, and fashionista of the family. Portia graduated Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in 2012 and graduated from the University of Kansas in 2015 with a BA in Psychology. She finished her Master’s in Early Childhood/Special Education in 2018. Portia had a passion for the littles and worked in Early Education until her final days. Portia lived in Lenexa, KS after finishing her Master’s degree and remained close with her sisters and friends. She loved sports, especially the Chiefs and Jayhawks. Everyone who knew Portia knew of her love for pugs and how she would stop strangers on the street to pet their pug. Portia was so good with her hands and spent free time doing macramé, weaving blankets for friends, helping her mom in the classroom and braiding hair. She touched so many lives and will always be remembered as a bright light. Portia never complained and was always there for the people around her, despite her own struggles. She was so strong, admired by many, taken from us too soon and will be extremely missed.Rosary will be at 5:30 pm, Thursday, September 14, 2023; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, September 15, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She is survived by her parents, Paul and Kim Morton; sisters, Zoey and Allegra Morton, all of Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, 1215 Stratford Ln., Wichita, KS 67206 (memorial funds to be used for the school playground project); Wichita Pug Rescue, 1252 NW Liberty Ln, Benton, KS 67017.Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

  1. Portia was a few grades younger than me, but I wished we were the same age. She was so funny and kind. I always thought how wonderful it would be to be lucky enough to have her as a close friend. Her personality lit up any room. I will try to be more like Portia – kind and loving to all. She made everyone feel important.

  2. I supervised Portia during one of her early childhood field experiences in graduate school at KU. Portia taught me a great deal during that semester. I am forever grateful to her. She taught me perseverance…how to look for the joys in life…and how to smile! She had a beautiful smile. I am honored to have known her.

  3. I was her religion teacher in middle school STA. I will always remember her huge smile, her enthusiasm, and her kindness. Her courage shown through everything she did. I am so blessed to have been her teacher

  4. My memory is of the sweetest little girl aged 1 thru 3 growing up with my son Brice under Kim’s care. I’m thinking of the Morton family now and such a loss.

  5. I was blessed to be Portia’s Christian Vocation teacher her Senior year at Kapaun Mt. Carmel. Portia’s smile was as brilliant as her mind. Her sense of humor kept class lively and she treated her peers and teachers with respect and kindness. She loved being on the soccer team. She suffered with dignity and courage and inspires me to be a better Catholic teacher, wife, mother and friend. I love envisioning her celebrating eternity in the arms of Jesus.

  6. Portia was a Teacher’s Aide for me in the Development office at Kapaun. Her time spent with us provided plenty of fun and laughs to go with the hard work.

I also got to call soccer games for KMC that she played in. No one had more fun on the field than Portia.

Portia’s smile was always bigger than the room. It was my honor to be a mentor and friend to Portia, and I will always remember her fondly.

My heart goes out to the Morton Family for their loss. Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she sleep in the peace of Christ.

  7. My father Pat and Portia’s father Paul were best friends. I remember growing up with Portia and her sisters and playing together. She had the best smile. I still remember it from such a young age. I can also still hear her laugh. She will be forever remembered and missed by many. I wish I had gotten the chance to continue getting to know her, but I hope to see her again one day and catch up after years of lost time. I will pray for her and her family everyday. God bless.

  8. Paul and Kim, so sorry to hear the news. I enjoyed the many visits with Portia at the dental office. She was always so kind (even though she probably did not enjoy a trip to the dentist) and had a wonderful smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. —Neil & Shannon Bhargava

  9. Chris and I always enjoyed seeing her when she brought Nala to the hospital. It was a pleasure to catch up with what she was doing and she was always so sweet and fun! I’ll always remember the three Morton sisters swimming with our kids at Rockwood, they were so fun to be around.

  10. Portia was my coworker at open minds she was so sweet with all of the babies and patient, I knew her only for 5 months but she made a big impact on me to always be caring and remember to laugh when things gets difficult rest in peace . ❤️

  11. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Portia. I worked with her at Sonic many years ago, along with Allegra and Zoey. I’ll never forget Portia’s sweet, social, and funny attitude.
I pray for your family to find comfort, and may Portia now rest in peace with God.
