Cynthia “Cindy” Higgins, age 70, passed away peacefully October 26, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 7, 1953, in Smith Center, Kansas, to Don and Cleo Hooper, both of whom predeceased her. She was married to Gregory “Greg” Higgins, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Levi and Emily Higgins of El Dorado, Kansas; her daughter and son-in-law, Emily Higgins Smith and Greg Smith of Andover KS; her grandchildren, Calyn, Lakynn, Peyton, and Taytum Smith, Chase and Taylor Higgins; along with a host of other family and friends.Cindy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, decorating for the seasons, floating in her backyard pool (which she generously shared with family and friends), playing cards, taking trips with her cousin, Cheryl Muck (who grew up with Cindy and was like a sister to her), staying abreast of current events via televised newscasts, and watching Hallmark movies with the proverbial happy ending. Most of all, she relished time spent with family. Cindy worked in radiology at Via Christi for 47 years where she made many lifelong friends, retiring in 2019 as the manager of radiology. The family is planning a celebration of life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at the Higgins' Home, 1 E. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Levi, Emily & families- I met your Mom in 1973 in the St Francis Radiology office. It was both a pleasure & privilege to have known and worked with her for many years. I can’t say enough good things about her. Her vibrant and caring personality & work ethic helped me through a lot of “changes” over the years. She was one of a kind, and I will always remember her laugh! Prayers for her & your family. Deb Goepfert

  2. Cindy Higgins: a woman woven into the best memories of my adolescence. We spent so much time in her Malibu as she carted “the Emilys” from here to there. I remember how hard she laughed when I’d butcher the lyrics to the country songs we’d listen to. The trips to Smith Center are my most cherished times with her. From the ball of twine, to the card games…and of course the stalker from Pizza Hut; I don’t think we ever stopped laughing on those trips. She was such an easy going woman with a heart of gold. In her eyes, she was probably “just doing what mom’s do” letting her daughter’s friend stay the night and chauffeuring them around. But what an impact all those things had. 25+ years later, my heart swells with love, gratitude and fondness for her. When I pass 1st Hawthorne, it still feels like home thanks to the loving friendship of Cindy, Greg, Emily, and Levi Higgins.
