In mid-1972, when I was 14, my friend Terry Blood and his family asked me to accompany them on their three-week camping trip. Always gracious and kind, Rex and Elaine Blood took on the responsibility of a third child as we drove away from Salina with their camper in tow. We were awe-struck with the beauty of Canadian forests, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Quebec City, Acadia National Park and Boothbay Harbor in Maine, Boston, Sturbridge Village, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Whether he was driving us on forest roads or on the streets of NYC, Rex kept his cool on the way to the next night’s campground. Rex would set up the camper, Elaine would prepare meals, and we kids would unpack the car before exploring the KOA campgrounds. Three weeks later, Rex delivered us safe and relatively sound back to Salina.
It was the greatest adventure of my young life. I was always amazed and grateful that the Blood family would so generously offer to share their vacation with me. The experience inspired me to travel extensively as an adult. I will think of Rex and Elaine when I reach my 50th state two months from now. Today my thoughts are with Terry and Teresa as they mourn the loss of a good man and father.

Scott, Thank you so much for the tribute for dad. We fondly remember that trip often and how much fun we had. He continued those trips and started taking his two grandsons on them and they have great memories of those trips too. Terry
I was sorry to here of Rex’s passing. I always enjoyed the time I had with him during his eye examinations. He and Elaine were some of my first patients after I took over for Dr Don Jensen back in 1990. Rex was a great gentleman and I will always remember him. He had a very difficult eye glasses prescription and he always let me know how much enjoyed his clear vision. We might even spent a little time during our exams talking golf! He spoke fondly of Terry & Teresa. I can describe Rex in one word: First Class!… well that’s 2 words but he was a great guy. Cheers to you my friend. Thinking of you all,
