Doug was born on Aug. 16, 1943, in Binghamton, NY; but it was in Milwaukee where he left an indelible mark. A passionate musician, Douglas was instrumental in growing the local music scene, playing lead guitar for the Royal Lancers in the 1950s and 1960s. He shared his talent by playing, teaching; and many of his most rewarding friendships were borne from his musical passion. Despite relocating several times since the early 1990s, Douglas remained a proud Milwaukeean at heart and a Packer fan to his core. His enduring friendships, forged during his days at Rufus King High School, were a testament to his loyalty and warmth. Even as Alzheimer's robbed him of his memory, he held dear the memories of his Milwaukee roots, a testament to the profound impact of his formative years. Services to celebrate Doug's life will be held at a later date in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In honor of his passion for music, the family kindly requests donations in Douglas's name to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, which "guides and inspires children and adults alike to find their voice, discover their desired instrument, and develop their music-making capabilities." I’m very thankful for the opportunity to know Doug. We met in 70s while in the music business and have remained in contact through the years. I was delighted when he and Jack Shelton visited Oregon together and joined us for lunch a few years ago. Great memories forever. Rest peacefully my friend.
I just found out about Doug’s passing. I loved him. He was an easy guy to care about because he cared so freely for others. I knew him in Milwaukee particularly during Sara’s gymnastics run. I helped out with fundraising as possible. It was a rough day when we found out the family was moving out of Milwaukee, knowing we wouldn’t likely see Doug’s smiling face behind the counter of a music store but it was always nice to know the family was moving on to new adventures. To Sara and the rest of Doug’s family, my heartfelt condolences. He was one of the most decent people I’ve ever known.
