Jana Lynn Hublick

April 8, 1957 ~ March 17, 2024
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the loss of Jana Lynn Hublick (McCormick). A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Jana’s life embodied compassion and a sense of giving that exemplified her love language.
Jana was a child of the late 1950s who grew up with her parents and two brothers in Ray County, MO and later graduated from Blue Springs High School. She had an interesting childhood with parents committed to ensuring both hard work and education were instilled in their children. During floods the family would take a boat from their farmhouse to ensure school attendance. They spent weekends down at the Lake of the Ozarks where the family enjoyed both swimming and waterskiing. Jana loved music and at age 10 was convinced she was going to become a musician. However, this love for music was overshadowed by her compassion for others and by age 16 she decided she wanted become a nurse. It was at this age that she also met her future husband, Robert Hublick, who was a soldier at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. The two met on a blind date where Robert was a stand-in.
The two began a life together, finished school and began their careers. It was those careers that would see them move from Blue Springs, MO to Wichita, KS in 1981. Jana had medical complications and was told she would have difficulty bearing children. However, in December 1981 her one son Lance was born, who survives her today with his wife and two grandchildren. An Army Mom, one of her proudest moments was seeing Lance graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2004 and pinning on his Ranger Tab in 2005. Jana’s life embodied compassion and a sense of giving. If you are reading this and she gave you a gift that was her way of telling you that she loved and cared deeply for you. Jana worked in several hospitals in both Missouri and Kansas. She was the Director of Nursing at Red Cross, worked for the Kansas Health Department, and as a Case Manager finding medical services for people in need. Jana eventually retired as a nurse at the Bob Dole Veteran Affairs Medical Center. In retirement, she began working at the local YMCA first learning about fundamentals of water exercise and ultimately becoming an instructor. A two time cancer survivor, Jana spent her final years working to expand the Live Strong Program at the YMCA. It was ultimately breast cancer that she could not beat and on Sunday, March 17, 2024, she lost her final battle with the disease. She passed away listening to gospel music and dialed into church that morning. Despite all of her accomplishments among her final words was that, “being a mother was the highlight of her life.”

I knew Jana because she was Lance’s sweet supportive mom when I was his German teacher at Northwest HS for three special years. She beamed with pride at his accomplishments, helped us with planning a student trip we took to Germany. The trip took place as Lance was working hard to pass his West Point admissions physical. When our bus stalled on a Rhine bridge in Cologne, he couldn’t waste his workout time sitting, so he took off for a five mile run–and made it back in time to join us crossing the bridge. Lana was so encouraging to me and yes, always to Lance. Rest in peace, sweet Lana Hublick.
Jana was special! She was so very proud of her son and a very compassionate nurse.
Sorry to hear. Ruth Knolla
Jana was such a wonderful caring person. When she found out I was having surgery last June,(2024) and that I didn’t have any help at home she started the ball rolling and guided me in getting help with meals. I wouldn’t have asked for help.on my own.. She was my water aerobics instructor, and encouraged me to get a meal plan started at my school, church and she also made food for me. I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for her. She was a fun caring and energetic water aerobics instructor, just loved ❤ her dearly. Rest in peace dear sweet Jana. Prayers of comfort and peace to her family and friends.
Jana was always very cheerful and happy. I knew her from church and school. She loved her trips to the lake with her family. Bob and I both worked in the security division at Ft. Leonard Wood. I moved on up to Ft Leavenworth and then a second tour to Korea so I don’t think I saw Jana or Bob after they got married. I will really miss her posts on Facebook. God Bless her for all the work she did with veterans. I really wish I could have been at her Mass.
