Mina Louise Stevens, 75, retired Hallmark employee, died Saturday, March 15, 2025. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Services will be live streamed and available to view by clicking on the "Watch Now" button below. Mina is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mildred Paget; husband, Russell Neil Stevens; sisters, Donna Jean Addison, Alice Jo Emery; brothers, Donald Paget, Wayne Paget, and Sherman Paget. She is survived by her sister, Sherryle Kinder of Wichita, Kansas; niece, Renee (Scott) Berggren of Augusta, Kansas; nephew, Parker (Kim) Key of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister-in-law, Judy Paget of San Angelo, Texas; and brother-in-law, Howard Emery of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Mina grew up in Fredonia, Kansas. Her family was quite poor, strong in faith, fiercely loving, and equally dysfunctional. Mina’s favorite childhood memory is walking her little dog Mitzy in the Fredonia Days parade (Sherryle and Donald walked their goats). She was so proud to win the “Best Pet” award and $15. While in high school Mina worked as an Aide at the Fredonia hospital. She loved reminiscing about the small things she did to make the patients more comfortable. She very much enjoyed giving. After high school Mina and brother Donald moved to Lawrence, Kansas where Donald attended Kansas State University. It was there that she met the love of her life Russell Stevens. With Russell, Mina discovered that life can be good. Both were so fun, funny, and adventurous together. Russell was an avid hunter and frequently was accompanied by Mina. They both were competitive shooters and Mina excelled. Mina did get her trophy deer and that was it for her. Mina worked at Hallmark in Lawrence. Over the 25 years she made cards, ribbons, and knick-knacks of all kinds of cuteness. She loved decorating her home for the holidays and had extensive mice, Precious Moments, and Hallmark collections. Mina and Russell experienced many ups and downs with the most devastating being the inability to have children. With Russell’s help Mina poured herself into her nieces, nephews and church family. She was the “favorite aunt” spoiling the kids. Mina struggled with deep mental scars which became very apparent mid-life. Russell, so faithful, protected her. Unfortunately, both developed significant dementia and were no longer able to take care of each other. God being so faithful always made sure they were cared for and family lovingly stepped in. Mina and Russell were brought to Wichita, Kansas in 2021 so Mina could be near her sister Sherryle. Russell’s home going was in June 2022. Mina so longed to be with him and has finally found her happiness in the arms of Jesus and Russell.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mina and I met in 1968. We became roommates and best friends. After she married and when I moved to the West Coast, we kept in close contact with one another. I was Mina’s Maid of Honor at her wedding we were so young back then! The last time I saw Mina and Russel was in 2017. We had so much fun visiting an going out to eat. I could tell there was a memory problem going on and I so smile when I remember her asking me if she could walk my dog, Lil about every half hour and I said certainly, because she enjoyed being with a dog so much. She was a beautiful person, she was my best friend in so many ways, and oh I so miss her so much! Norma Badders Tahash
