Patricia ‘Pat’ Glendening Renze, passed away at home in Wichita, KS on March 18, 2025. She was born December 30, 1940, at home in Stockton, KS, the youngest of three children born to her parents Aiden H. Glendening and Goldye Laverne (Hazen) Glendening. Both of her siblings, John and Betty, preceded her in death, as well as her son-in-law Brian Mann. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Pasquale ‘Pat’ Renze, her daughter Alicia Mann of Wichita, KS, her son Scott Renze (Tara) of Overland Park, KS, three grandchildren Alexis Mann, Benjamin Renze, and John 'Jack' Renze, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pat graduated high school in Stockton, KS in 1958 and went on to the University of Kansas where she graduated with a BS in Education with distinction in 1962. She then moved to Los Angeles where she taught elementary education in the public school system until 1971. LA is where she met the love of her life Pat and they were married on August 21,1971, in Englewood, CA. They moved shortly after to Ft. Collins, CO where their daughter was born in 1973 and then on to Cheyenne, WY, adding a son in 1975, before settling in Wichita, KS. She worked home party jobs with Princess House and Creative Circle before becoming a coordinator at CASA (Roots & Wings) and then at Make-A-Wish Foundation before retiring in 2008. Pat loved her family and doted on her grandchildren. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed reading so much that she usually had several books going at once. Her love of music was evident- she was a member of Sweet Adelines and the UUMC church choir for many years and taught her granddaughter to play the piano. She was a pro at sewing and knitting and many are benefiting from her hats, scarves, and prayer shawls that she routinely donated. She was smart as a whip to the end and made sure to do her crossword puzzles every day and share her Wordle score with her grandkids. Memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at University United Methodist Church, Wichita, KS. Pat’s final resting place will be Ascension Cemetery after cremation. Memorials can be sent in her name to UUMC to help in their missions: 2220 North Yale Avenue, Wichita, KS 67220. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

Guestbook

  1. Dear Pat, Alicia, Scott and Tara, I was so sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. She was the older cousin I looked up to as a little girl. She and Barb were kind, and tolerated me tagging after them at family dinners. She also was a role model for me. I remember her showing me around the elementary school before I started first grade. I also remember her showing me around KU when the Stockton Band went there. She was the first relative I knew who was attending college. She gave me courage.
As adults we did not live close, but kept in touch via christmas cards/letters. We only got together a few times over the years, but I was always a little in awe of how well she lived her life. She was an inspiration to me. She is missed.
