Thomas "Tommy" David Thompson Jr.

July 21, 1969 ~ June 19, 2025

Tommy was the beloved son of Thomas Thompson and Jackie (Perigo) Hill. Born in Wichita, Kansas, his family moved to Okemah, Oklahoma when he was 9 months old, and later to Tulsa, Oklahoma when he was 4 years old. He attended Hoover Elementary, Whitney Jr. High, and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1987. Throughout his school years Tommy was an avid sports enthusiast, participating in wrestling, basketball, t-ball, football, baseball, and soccer. At Nathan Hale, he found his passion for drama and was known for his comedic talent, often bringing laughter to his classmates, teachers, family and friends.

Inspired by a recruiter, Tommy joined the US Marine Corps Reserves his senior year starting boot camp after graduation. In November 1990, he was pulled from college and deployed to Desert Shield/Storm with the Fox Battery 2nd Battalion 14th Marine Division, where he proudly served his country for seven months in Iraq. After returning home as a combat veteran, Tommy completed his bachelor’s degree at OSU in 1993 and continued to serve in the Marine Reserves until his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1995.

Tommy’s professional career spanned various roles in IT security, compliance, and consulting for companies such as Williams Companies, True Digital Security, and AnswerThink.

He had a deep love for OU/OSU football, playing guitar, writing many songs & poems inspired by his life experiences. Known for his generosity, tender heart, and loyalty, Tommy was a proud Marine, a crusader for his beliefs, and a man of deep faith who enjoyed sharing his spirituality with others.

Tommy is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jackie and Larry Hill of Allen, TX; his sister, Tonya Thompson of Dallas; his father, Tom Thompson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Tommy was my first love, of course we were in the 4th grade, but boy was he cute. We had a wedding ceremony behind our elementary school. One time later in life he introduced me as his 1st wife. He was so funny and his thoughts and emotions ran deep. I pray he is free from pain and is playing his guitar and singing the beautiful songs he wrote.

  2. Our junior or senior year, Tommy decided we, as a school, should set a Guinness World Record around yo-yos. I don’t remember the exact details anymore, but he made a very impassioned plea at a Student Council meeting, where he demonstrated several tricks to prove how cool yo-yos were. I still think of Tommy every time I see a yo-yo, and I smile. Sending my love to you all.

  3. Back in 10th grade, Tommy made up a song to help him learn the Periodic Table. I eventually learned the song just by hearing it so much. We aced the test, but the teacher accused us of academic dishonesty. We sang her Tommy’s song to prove our innocence. We still laughed about that more than 20 years later.

  4. Tommy was so funny, smart, full of life and talent when we were young. I remember listening to him play guitar on the couch after coming back from one of our friends night out evening’s and thinking, we should all start a band. I rethought that idea the following day realizing the rest of us had no talent, only Tommy. Tommy, your bright light will shine forever. Rest in peace my friend.

  5. I knew Tommy in HS, he was always so upbeat and happy, you couldn’t help but smile when you saw him.
We later met up again back in 2010 and dated for a while, what a kind, generous soul he has, so loving and good to my girls. We ended up parting our separate ways but remained friends. I know he is having the time of his life in Heaven, I’m sure he cracks Jesus up, Jesus does have a sense of humor!
Tommy you will forever hold a place in my heart, RIP friend… til we meet again 🩷

  6. I’m gonna miss our calls and texts brother, we gotten so close over the years, I don’t know if I’ll be able to make either service, since I’m my moms caregiver now and it’s just so hard to get her out and about, or someone to watch her, yet when she’s gets better we will come visit you in Fort Sill, just know I love you and I’m gonna miss you, Rest Easy, SEMPER FI and OohRah!!!!

    Gute

  7. I’m very grateful to consider Tommy one of the closest and most significant friends of my life. We shared great moments of joy and laughter as well as our life’s struggles. We learned and grew together until we began to grow apart. It is the nature of things. The ebb and flow of life, but that doesn’t diminish the extraordinary times we spent together. Tommy was extremely influential in helping me become the man I am today and I feel so blessed for the time we did spend together. Sometimes quality is more significant than quantity. As much as I would have liked to have grown old together it was not meant to be. Tommy will be reflected in me for the rest of my life.
