Tony Utter was born in Anchorage, Alaska on January 13, 1952, the first of six children of Quincy and Patricia Utter. He was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from his family and friends on January 30, 2026, in Wichita, KS, after playing another round of pickleball, his new favorite hobby that he played regularly with his wife Carolyn.
At the time of his death, Tony was Managing Broker with Utter Commercial Real Estate, Inc. assisting landlords, property owners, tenants, sellers and buyers with 48 years of commercial real estate experience.
A life-long resident of Wichita and a 1970 graduate of Chaplain Kapaun Memorial High School, Tony received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Wichita State University in 1974 and a Juris Doctor Degree from Washburn University School of Law in June 1977. In October 2005, Tony completed three years of course work and testing to earn his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.
Tony is a Past President of the Kansas CCIM Chapter, Past President of the Wichita Area Association of Realtors and served as Chairperson of the Building Task Force for WAAR to oversee construction of their new headquarters at the WaterWalk in downtown Wichita that opened September 2008. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Guadalupe Health Foundation and the Wichita Downtown Corporation.
As much as he enjoyed working within the commercial real estate community, his heart’s true passion was for Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. He was happiest and most fulfilled when he could share his faith with others. Tony was involved with RCIA (OCIA) which is the formation of believers who aspire to join the Catholic Church. He served as a Sponsor and Catechist. Tony and Carolyn were involved for many years with Marriage Encounter, an experience designed for married couples to improve their relationship through enhanced communication. Tony and Carolyn continued to be involved with their parish, Church of the Resurrection. Tony and Carolyn were blessed to have the opportunity to travel on numerous pilgrimages including the Holy Land, Rome, Assisi, Fatima, Lourdes, Santiago, Medjugorje and more.
Tony was an avid fan of the Wichita Shockers Basketball, Baseball and Softball teams as well as the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He loved coaching his sons and their friends in countless competitive baseball and AAU basketball teams from grade school through high school for over sixteen years.

Dear Carolyn,
I was saddened this morning to hear of Tony’s abrupt death. We sure enjoyed getting to know you both throughout the years we were in Marriage Encounter and have fond memories. You and your family will be in my prayers. It is consoling to know that Tony continued to be excited about his faith in Jesus and persisted in his love for God throughout his life. May God now comfort you and walk this way of the cross with you.
Dear Carolyn and family,
Jim And I are so sorry for the sudden loss of Tony. Our hearts go out to you in sympathy.
God bless you with his love and Grace.

Carolyn,
Your husband was a deeply good man, and I loved him. I know precious few people who practice their faith with the fervor, the patience, and the persistence that you and Tony showed forth for so many years. May God strengthen and comfort you and your family.
Carolyn, we’re so sorry for the sudden loss of Tony. He was a good neighbor. Prayers for you and your family for peace and comfort. He’s with the Lord. Cherish your memories!
Wise, humble, faith-filled and loyal, Tony brought much to any task he undertook. Full of life, Tony lives on in the lessons we learned from him and our many, fond memories.
It was such a joy to work alongside Tony. He was a rare leader who balanced immense patience with a genuine eagerness to share his knowledge and time. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentorship he provided and the kind environment he created. Carolyn, my deepest thoughts and heart go out to you and your family during this time.
I am very sorry for your sudden loss of Tony. He led with his faith and welcoming smile. He was so dedicated to you and your family. I remember when I first asked him if he would like to come our convention, the first question he had was, “Can I take my wife?”. I loved that!
We will be praying for you now and in the weeks ahead.

Tony was the best of us. His dedication to Jesus, his church, Carolyn, his children, grandchildren, family and friends was unmatched. Tony’s fire for his faith was contagious. It certainly rubbed off on me. He was a master catechist and the ultimate professional. I’m going to miss my friend. My heart goes out to you, Carolyn. You both have had a great impact on me.
