Gordon was born on March 14, 1939, in Beloit, Kansas. He lived on a farm and attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse. Following high school graduation at age 17, he came to Wichita and convinced Boeing to hire him even though he was still underage. Later he attended the University of Wichita and studied business. In Gordon’s young adult years he served in the Army National Guard. During his career, Gordon worked at Amortibanc making loans, then became a loan officer at Southwest Federal Savings and Vice President at Wichita Federal Savings. After leaving Wichita Federal, Gordon became an entrepreneur as a residential real estate appraiser. He built a flourishing business that he passed along to a colleague upon his retirement.

Gordon married Carol Van Arsdale on June 25, 1960, and they shared 65 wonderful years together in Wichita. Together they raised two children, Robin and Michael, in Bel Aire, Kansas. Gordon was a great provider, fixer, and handy man.  He loved fishing and boating with family at Grand Lake, Oklahoma. Gordon instilled a work ethic and built lasting traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Gordon was an avid car guy. He raced cars as a young man and enjoyed years with a 1967 Pontiac Bonneville. He took it to many car shows throughout south-central Kansas for over a decade.

Gordon is preceded in death by his father, Earl Jones; and mother, Vivan Gadsby.

He is survived by wife, Carol Jones; daughter Robin (Brian) Pressnall of Bel Aire; son, Michael (Linda) Jones, of Wichita; brother, Robert (Millie) Jones of Beloit, KS; granddaughters, Melissa (Jason) Mihalcin of Erie, Colorado and Kelsey (Hannah) Cava-Pressnall of New York, NY; grandsons, Weston Jones of Austin, Texas and Darren (Hayley) Jones of Maize, KS, Great grandchildren: Grant, Jack, and Lillian Mihalcin; and Lenora Jones.
