Ada Glinn “Lynn” Douglas, 93, died Sunday, May 29, 2016. Funeral Service will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Ada Glinn ("Lynn") Douglas was born July 6, 1922, in Scotland County, Missouri. Lynn lived on the family farm and while in grade school rode her horse to a one-room school house up the road. In high school, she moved into town and lived with a family in Memphis, Missouri so she could play basketball. She became Captain of her basketball team, won many scholastic awards, and was Queen of Scotland County. After high school, she left rural life to work in the City Kansas City, Missouri, and then moved to Pueblo, Colorado to continue working where she met Don Douglas, who was serving in the Army Air Corps. They were subsequently married in Kansas City and made their first home in Clifton, Kansas. Her husband returned to college for his Ph.D. so they moved to Manhattan, Kansas, and Lynn went back to work. She continued to work after they moved and settled in Wichita where they remained for the next 46 years. Eventually, she lived a more leisurely life style, but continued to be very social (did not like being at home) and always claimed "I am not a sitter." Her passions were golfing and bowling and dining out/socializing nightly with her husband. Through the years, she served in Masonic Lodge Eastern Star, 4-H, Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts leader, Braeburn Womens Golf Club President and Wichita Womens Golf Association (winning numerous trophies), various offices with bowling leagues (winning numerous trophies), Assistance League, Thrift Store, Operation Headstart, and taught Christian Church Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School. Lynn was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind two daughters, Sharon Douglas and Donna Christine Douglas (husband Dr. Mark Coughenour), three grand-daughters - Michelle Nielsen (husband Jon), Erika Brotzman, Meredith Gamas (husband Ryan), and three great grandchildren - Zac, Luke, and Kate. Her husband of 70 years (Dr. Donald M. Douglas) pre-deceased her in January, 2013. In lieu of flowers, any contributions can be made to: Alzheimers Association, Central & Western Kansas 1820 E.
