Albert (Art) Arthur Prophet, 77, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and close friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24th, 2023, after a short battle with dementia and related symptoms. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Dick) and Alma Prophet (both of Wichita); and his sister, Sharon 'Kay' McCarty (from Fresno, CA). Art’s family was most important to him. Art was born into a hard-working family, growing up in Wichita, KS his entire life. He was a 1964 graduate of Southeast high school. He always had an affinity for fast cars, including early models of corvettes, T-Birds and owning 2 show cars during his lifetime (a 1923 modified street roadster called “Tweety Bird” and a 1967 Chevelle). He became a father at the early age of 23 years old, spending much of his fatherly years coaching sports and working for the Wichita School Board of Education. He eventually would go to work for The Boeing Company, retiring as the Administrator from The IAM/Boeing Health & Safety organization in 2005. He met Carolyn in 1996 after ‘bumping into her accidentally’ at The Grape. They would eventually be married in 1997. He & Carolyn loved to travel and going out to eat, especially at their favorite restaurant, Savute’s. On any given weekend, you would catch them eating and taking in libations at the bar rail with their friends. He was always known to be the ‘life of the party’ with a witty sense of humor, which will be carried on in life by his family. He also took great pride in taking care of his yard & home, trying to always ‘outdo’ the neighbors with his manicured landscape designs. He would often endure inclement weather to go view the sky when things were bad outside, along with KWCH 12 news loudly blaring in the background, with their ‘street reporters’ reporting from all areas of the city. Art was always a devoted husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He was known for always helping others in time of need and instilled this in his family. He adored his grandchildren and always took a very active role in their lives, watching them play their favorite sports and offering wise words of wisdom and love after every game. He was also a ‘dedicated participant from the stands’ during the games too…….. Art leaves behind a legacy of love, light, laughter, and honor. His quiet yet never-ending sense of fun was contagious, and he was adored by all who knew him. WE LOVE you more! He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Prophet of Wichita; his son, Jaysen Prophet; his older sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Rex Raines (Wichita) and her son Jeff McCoy (Arkansas); two sons by marriage, Tim & Danny Konecny (both from the KC area); and grandchildren, Trysten and Tanner Prophet (both of Wichita), Anthony and Justin Konecny (both of Kansas City), Mackenzie Lucy (Virginia) and Cody Konecny (Texas); as well as great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, January 5, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. A memorial has been established with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
