Albert N. “Al” Loeffler, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord, on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from heart failure, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Maureen Loeffler. He leaves behind his two daughters, Peggy Label, 64, and Carol Lentz-Smith, 62; his four grandchildren, Dustin Lentz, Ashley Lentz, Carlie Tracy, Valerie Desrochers, and their families, as well as his loving friend, Jeanette Altmanshofer. Albert was born April 3, 1922, to Fred Loeffler and Katy Neufeld Loeffler of Meade, Kansas. He attended Meade High School, then lived in Elbing, Kansas, and later Newton, Kansas. During World War II, Al served as corporal in the U.S. Army. After the war, he met the love of his life, Maureen Doll, and they were married on July 28, 1951. Al and Maureen resided in Wichita their entire married lives. They loved dancing, country western music, and playing cards with friends. Al was a perfect gentleman. He did anything he could for others, thinking of others before himself, whether it be installing speakers in his grandson’s car, playing baseball or changing the oil in his daughter’s car, he always showed he cared. His smile and subtle sense of humor were contagious. His soothing touch and calming words expressed his inner peace. His example as a devoted husband and father inspired the next generation to be like him. With Al, you learned to slow down and enjoy life in the moment. He will be missed by family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KU Medical Center-Wichita, c/o Gift Processing Department, KU Endowment, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044-0928 (www.kuendowment.org/medwichita).
