Alvin D. “Al” Herrington, 86, attorney, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016. Alvin was born September 23, 1930, in Wellington, Kansas, to Ethel (Britt) and Joseph Herrington. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1948, received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1955 and graduated from the University of Kansas Law School in 1957 as a member of the Order of the Coif. Al served 3 years in the United States Army in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Mr. Herrington practiced law with the law firm of McDonald, Tinker, Skaer, Quinn and Herrington from 1957-2011. He enjoyed a distinguished career and was an accomplished trial and appellate attorney. He was a member of the American, Kansas and Wichita Bar Associations. Al was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award. He served in many positions for the Quivera Council and was a long-serving member of the Board of Directors. Al enjoyed spending time with his family, his animals, and smoking his pipe. He was proud of his lifelong pursuit of learning and was currently attending classes at WSU. Al was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark; brothers, Maurice Lee and Merlin Herrington. Survivors: children, Tracy (Anthony) Profita, Dan (Kathy) Taylor all of Wichita; brother, Donald of Wellington; grandchildren, Zachary Herrington, Nicole Howerton, Jordan DonJuan and Joseph Profita. Funeral Service, 10 a.m., Friday, December 30 at First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway in Wichita. Burial will be at Sumner County Memorial Gardens in Wellington. Memorial established with Boy Scouts of America, 3247 N. Oliver, Wichita, KS 67220. Downing & Lahey West.
