Marcus, Alvin M, 83, Certified Public Accountant with Allen, Gibbs and Houlik, passed away August 15, 2007. Visitation with the family 3:00 ~ 5:00 P.M., Sunday, August 19, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Service 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 20, East Heights United Methodist Church. Alvin was born August 19, 1923 to Charlie and Rose Marcus in Omaha, Nebraska, the oldest of three sons. He graduated with a bachelor degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska in 1945 and came to Wichita to work for Moberly West in 1949. He continued his career with this firm as it evolved into Allen, Gibbs and Houlik until his death. Alvin was also active in many civic organizations and volunteer work including the Wichita Chamber of Commerce, the Wichita Symphony and Via Christi. He is survived by his sons, Scott of St. Louis, Missouri and Reid of Wichita, his daughter, Diane of Olathe, Kansas and his step-daughter, Jenny Hutchison of Wichita as well as five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the Wichita Symphony, 225 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67202; East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67218 and Kansas CPA Society, PO Box 4291, Topeka, KS 66604-0291. Visitation with the family 3:00 ~ 5:00 P.M., Sunday, August 19, Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  1. Mr. Marcus was a true friend. When I started at AGH it wasn’t too long after his wife had passed away and had a reputation for being the grouchy old man. But after my first encounter with him when I stood up for myself and ended up being right we were instant friends. I teased him a lot and could always make him smile. We even went to lunch a few times and after I left AGH he took me to the AGH Christmas Party so I could see everyone. I usually stopped by and seen him at least twice a year. Usually at Christmas and around his birthday. Unfortunately I waited to long this year for my visit. I will miss him. He was a wonderful man.
