Amy Sue Keeny

amy keeny
Amy Deterding Keeny was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, friend, and soon-to-be grandma. She left this world too soon on Monday, October 11, 2021, at age 57 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. Amy was born on January 21, 1964, to Max and Shirley (Kubik) Deterding. Raised in Turon, Kansas, she attended Fairfield High School. Then on to the University of Kansas where she found joy in everything associated with Rock Chalk Jayhawk. While at KU she established many life-long friendships and met her future husband, Mark Keeny. Amy cherished her time in Delta Gamma sorority and continued to participate in DG activities throughout her life. Amy and Mark married in 1986 and lived in Overland Park, Wichita, and Kingman (Kansas). Amy became a devoted mother when their children were born, but still found time to make friends and become involved in community activities. She was also involved in the family business, Citizens Bank of Kansas. So many people consider themselves a friend of Amy, and will miss her, as will her surviving family: husband, Mark; daughter, Sarah Moon (Thomas); son, Sam Keeny; sister, Jane Deterding (Brent Lehner); aunt, Anne Rising (Gene); father-in-law, Gary (Carol) Keeny; brother-in-law, Jeff Keeny (Jill Skaggs); sister-in-law, Pam Hesse (Karl); four cousins and several nieces and nephews. Those going before her: parents, grandparents, and infant sons, Jay Michael and Jackson Paul. Services for Amy will be at the Kingman United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Live stream will be available through the church’s website: https://www.kingmanumc.org/ A reception following the service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Riverview Room at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, 400 W. Waterman St. Face masks are required at both events. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations to the KAMI Kingman Food Pantry, P.O. Box 173, Kingman, KS 67068; or Beta Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma House Corporation, 1015 Emery Rd., Lawrence, KS 66045. Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
