Andres Nicolas Baez-Marino

Andres Nicolas Baez-Marino, 77, former physical education teacher, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021. Rosary, 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 19; Funeral Mass, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Funeral Mass with burial following will be at 10:00 am, Friday, December 3, 2021, at Funeraria y Cementerio Monte Calvario, Salida Caguas a Curabo, Carr. 189 km 2.2, Caguas, Puerto Rico. Andres was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest child of Ramon Baez and Narcisa Marino vda. de Baez. As a young man, he was an avid athlete and played basketball, volleyball, and ran track for the University of Puerto Rico. He represented Puerto Rico as a basketball player and a track athlete. He played semi-professional basketball for the Cardenales de Rio Piedras. He was a member of the Puerto Rico National Guard while attending the University of Puerto Rico. He completed his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico; his Master’s degree from the Inter American University, and his Doctorate degree from the University of Toledo. Andres was a professor at the University of Puerto Rico and retired from teaching from the Clark County School District in 2003. Andres enjoyed spending time with his family, tending to his roses, and watching his daughters and grandkids play sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Baez-Soler and Narcisa Marino; brother, Adrian Baez-Marino; sisters, Ruth P. Baez vda de Libby and Cisita Baez-Marino. Survivors: wife, Rosa M. Negron; brother, Juan Ramon (Irma Hernaiz) Baez-Marino; daughters, Rosa de Lourdes Price, Maria (Anthony O. Hicks) Baez de Hicks, Denise Baez-Negron, Joanne (Nathan) Bias, Margarita Baez-Negron; grandchildren, Oscar Andres Arroyo-Baez, Coral Marie Arroyo-Baez, Taira Lauren McNiel, Rosana Yvonne Hicks, Anthony O. Hicks, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Julian, RJ and Leanna Kathryn; numerous extended family. A memorial has been established with Alzheimer's Association, Central & Western Kansas, 1820 E.
