Lew, Arline Ling Hon, 92, beloved wife, mother, homemaker and volunteer, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at First Evangelical Free Church with burial following at 12:00 P.M. at Fairview Cemetery, Augusta. Arline was the daughter of Mon Fong and Chin Shee Leong and was born September 28, 1919 in Canton, China. She moved to the United States with her family when she was eight and became a naturalized citizen January 15, 1952. She married James N. Lew on January 6, 1940, in New York City. They moved to Wichita in January 1940. They were life-long members at First Evangelical Free Church. Arline taught Sunday School for 30 years, and volunteered in the nursery. She was active in Womens Ministries and a faithful supporter of missions. She loved gardening. She was a Wesley Hospital Gift Shop volunteer and a Pink Lady volunteer. She also volunteered for the Red Cross for over 20 years and at the Veterans Administration Hospital for over 10 years. Arline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Soon Y. Leong. She is survived by sons, James W. Lew (Gale), of Wichita, Wayne S. Lew (Ginger), of Lenexa; daughters, Janet L. Brehm (Jim), of Safety Harbor, FL, and Yolanda L. Black (John), of Augusta; sisters, May Y. Leong, of Hilton Head, S.C. and Jeanne Eng (Dr. Lawrence), of Palo Alto, CA; grandchildren, Laura Steere (Rob), Pam Sabolovic (Mike), Alissa Abu-Yousif (Adnan), Eric Lew, Kyle Lew (Jeni), Peter Black, Emily Black, George Brehm, Eddie Brehm, Jenna Brehm, Allie Brehm; great-grandchildren, Sarah Steere, Abby Steere, Anna Marie Sabolovic, Emma Sabolovic, and Avery Abu-Yousif. A memorial fund has been established with First Evangelical Free Church, 1825 North Woodlawn, Wichita, Kansas, 67208. Visitation with the family 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Graveside service 12:00 P.M. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery, Augusta.

  1. Dear Janet and family, I am so sorry other obligations kept me from being able to come to the visitation or your mother’s memorial service. I would have loved to see you again. I have such sweet memories of your mother–from the time I began going to FEF, both your parents were so kind and welcoming to me. Each time we met, we had wonderful conversations about our families and the Lord. She loved you all so much, and I know you will miss her. What a blessing that she enjoyed such a long life here on earth and is now perfected in Heaven for eternity. My love and sympathy to you and yours,
