Barbara A. (Graham) Salter

barbara salter
Salter, Barbara A. (Graham), 96, homemaker, departed this earthly realm to claim her heavenly rest on Friday, August 27, 2010. Barbara was called sister by seven others, wife by one, mother by five, grandmother by 13, great-grandmother by 11, great-great grandmother by 11 and friend by many people of all ages and stations of life. Her soul gloried in many parts of Gods creation, and this artistic bent was further encouraged by her mentor and artist friend Anna Mae Bradshaw. She encouraged her children and all her grand children to express their artistic side, which meant she got many special gifts from them. Her free time was spent with service organizations in Wichita and Augusta, her beloved PEO sisters, her friends of faith in a couple of churches, donating her time as a Pink Lady at Wesley. Barbara encouraged all her friends and family to visit whenever they were in town, and have dinner with her and anyone else available. Her parents were her greatest examples of love and sacrifice, as her father owned the Carl Graham Paint and Glass Store, and her mother managed the busy lives of all the family members, as well as being two of the founding members of the Broadway Christian Church. Let your lives be used to create wonderful memories for those around you, and your life will be full. Preceded in death by husband, Thomas B. Salter; grandchildren, Julie and Tommy. Survivors: children, Judith (Ronald) Britt of Abilene, KS, Thomas G. (Carol) Salter of Wichita, KS, Sara V. (Howard) Morrow of Yellville, AR, Jerry P. (Stephanie) Salter and Elizabeth J. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Ever since we got Judy’s call that Barbara had passed away, Bob and I have been remembering how special Barbara was to us and Bob’s family. As a bride-to-be I came to Wichita at Easter time to meet Bob’s family and friends. Barbara had the most amazing bridal shower for me. Forty-eight years later I’m still using the knives and baking pans Barbara selected for me as joint gifts from the shower guests. At the time of Bob’s dad’s death, Mark was a toddler that needed a daily nap. Barbara so kindly offered to stay with him during the funeral. I knew he was in good hands. When Bob’s mother was so very ill, Barbara comforted, consoled, and counseled us. I always admired the friendship that Barbara and Mother had. They were true soul mates. We send our deepest sympathy to you at this sad time. Grace and peace, Ann and Bob Gerteis

  2. Mort has known Barbara for over 73 years. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. God bless each and every one of you, now and in the future.

  3. Sorry to hear of Barbara passing. She was Mom’s very good friend, and a very caring person. I remember my younger years when our families got together (Salter’s and Gerteis’s and the many days I spent visiting you. Charles Gerteis (Chuck)
