Barbara Ann Giovanni

January 28, 1939 ~ March 1, 2021
Barbara Ann Giovanni
was called home to heaven on March 1, 2021, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family. Rosary and visitation with the family will be Thursday, March 4th at 7pm, and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, March 5th. Both will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, Wichita, Kansas. Barbara was born January 28, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Wayne and Mary (Jaroch) Banner. She was joined in marriage to Philip Edward Giovanni December 1, 1962, in Niles, Illinois, after which she and her husband lived in multiple states while he was in Naval Air Traffic Control training until they settled in Wichita, Kansas, to raise their children. Barbara was a dedicated volunteer with Catholic Charities. When she wasn’t working with her school children, she loved being outdoors, read voraciously and fervently prayed the Rosary. Barbara never missed a sporting event, performance or any activities that her children or grandchildren participated in over the years. Her greatest joy in later life was being “Grandma G” to the children at St. Patrick’s Elementary School. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Beverly Saiger. Barbara is survived by her husband, Philip Edward Giovanni; children: Michael A. Giovanni of Aurora, Colorado, Dr. Susan M. Giovanni of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary Giovanni Schulte and Dan Schulte of Leawood, Kansas; grandchildren: Alex and Philip James Giovanni, Maddy and Libby Lies, Brittany and Nikolas Psyllas, Rachel, Samuel and Megan Butts, Madalyn, Amelia and Briana Schulte; great-grandchild: Tavan Johnson. Also surviving are siblings: Rita Banner of Davie, Florida, Joann and Allene Banner of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robert and Gail Banner of Lake Worth, Florida; nephews: Peter Wayne Saiger, Nicholas Banner; nieces: Kristyn Pallisso, Ashley Oramas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, KS 67202. Arrangements in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.

The Foster Grandparent Program sends its condolences to the family of Barbara Giovanni; also known affectionately as Grandma Gio. For almost fourteen years grandma mentored many young children; her most recent and longest tenure was with St. Patrick’s Catholic school. She had a genuine concern for kiddos and wanted them to do their very best each day. Grandma Gio also assisted school staff with projects when needed. She loved her work and was proud to be a volunteer. Her presence will be missed by many. May God bless your family in your time of bereavement. Respectfully,
