Barbara Jean (Holden) Weddle

Barbara Jean (Holden) Weddle passed away January 7, 2022. Barbara was born in Wichita, Kansas September 30, 1934, to Jack and Vivian (Peggy) Holden. She attended grade school in Wichita except for one year in Galveston, Texas. Barbara graduated from Wichita East High School and attended Friends University for two years. She met Max Weddle on a blind date at a Valentine formal at Friends on February 13, 1953. They were married June 6, 1954. Four children were born of this union during which the family lived in the same home, adding on space to accommodate the growing family. Barbara was an excellent parent, housekeeper, cook and companion. She found time to pursue her interests in painting, ceramics, cake decorating, collecting Fenton glass, Teddy Bears and kitchen artifacts. Other passions were growing flowers and taking photographs. She especially enjoyed travelling in the motor home to the lower 48 states. Her favorite trips were to New England in the fall when the leaves turned color. She enjoyed family get togethers for birthdays and holidays, cooking and decorating the house interior for each holiday theme.
The most important aspects of her life were her faith and love of family. Her faith never wavered, and her love of family was steadfast no matter what life presented.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Vivian; brother, Jack Holden, Jr.; and her son, Scott. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Max; daughters, Rhonda Rinehart, Lisa Henrie (Greg); son, Mark (Krysti); nine grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Glenn Carr House of Memory Care in Derby, Kansas where Barbara resided the last two and a half years of her life and to Serenity Hospice Care for the care Barbara received those final years was a comfort to her family.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East Chapel on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Graveside service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Kechi Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside Ave., Kechi, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memoriam be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Central & Western Kansas, 1820 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214.
I am a grand-daughter of hers and can’t tell you how much I miss those amazing holidays at her house Easter and Christmas we would all come together and spend it with her my favorite memories from when I was younger they are almost all at her house she brought family together and although she could be quiet her smile said 1000 words and her smile could light a whole room she will greatly missed but us all ❤️
