Barbara Laurette Karges

Karges, Barbara Laurette “Babs”, 84, retired legal secretary died on May 23, 2012, at the Catholic Care Center. Funeral will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, 2:00 P.M. She is preceded in death by her parents, Laurette (Harrington) and Paul Karges. Babs is survived by her friends, Dolores Collins Crum, Dee Warren Kopper, and Pat Etter Becker. Barbara and six close friends called themselves “The Seven Sisters”. They formed a friendship while attending Cathedral High School that lasted to the present day. Three of the friends have died: Sally Salamone Cates, Pat Phillips Daniels, and Millicent Brazil Murdock. Barbara attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas, and the University of Kansas. After Barbaras fathers death, she cared for her mother, while employed as Bishop Leo C. Byrnes secretary. She also worked at Wichita University and, for many years, as Legal Assistant for attorney Douglas Shay. Memorials have been established with The Lords Diner, 520 N.
