Barbara vanSteinberg

Barbara vanSteinberg, 78, retired elementary school teacher for the Wichita Public Schools for 27 years, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014. Visitation with the family, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 23, Downing and Lahey Mortuary West. Memorial service, 11 a.m., Saturday, January 25, West Heights United Methodist Church. Barbara graduated in 1957 from Wichita State University with a Bachelors in Education and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was also a member of the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and Mary Martha Circle at West Heights United Methodist Church. Barbara was a master gardener and enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Opal Carle. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, William A. “Bill” vanSteinberg; children, William (Larry Pickering) vanSteinberg, Jr. of Wichita, Chris (Tracie) vanSteinberg of Edmond, OK, Susan (Rick) Brewer of Derby; grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Ashley, Rachael, Erica, Victoria and William vanSteinberg III.
