Becker, Karl Edmund Sr., 90, Retired Independent Petroleum Geologist, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, October 14, 2006. Rosary is 7:00 pm Tuesday and Funeral Mass is 10:30 am Wednesday both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He was born on November 6, 1915 in Ravenna, Ohio, graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and continued graduate studies in Geology at the University of Kansas. On November 26, 1941, Karl married Virginia Ochs. He served as a captain with the 8th Army Air Force in England during World War II. He has lived in Wichita since 1951. Karl was active in the Kansas Geological Society (past president and honorary member), Advisory Board University of Kansas Geology Department, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists and Petroleum Club of Wichita (past officer). Virginia and Karl were founding members of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Virginia, brother William Becker (Ronnie) of Northwood, NH, sons and daughter: Dr. Karl Becker Jr. (Gail) of Leawood, KS; Paul Becker (Sharon) of Wichita; Ruthie Gillespie (James) of Wichita; and Bruce Becker of Morrison, CO; grandchildren: Karl Becker III (Kitty) of Louisville, CO; Pattie Lee Becker of Boulder, CO; Chris Becker and Debbie Grylicki (Matt) of Denver, CO; Jamie Becker of Newport, CA; Ann Gillespie of Cincinnati, OH; Jane Pryor (Jon) of Whittier, CA; Caroline Gillespie of Wichita; 3 great grandchildren and Lincoln, his dog. Memorials have been established with Kansas Geological Foundation, Alzheimers Association and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Rosary 7:00pm Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church
