  1. Suzie and I just loved Bernie! Every time I went to the office I hoped he would be there so I would have someone to talk sports and have a good laugh. When we moved away to KC we missed seeing him and would always look forward to special company events so we could say hi. He is someone who will truly be missed day to day and I still can’t believe he is gone. The office will not be the same without him. Bernie, we love you!

  2. Bernie’s Family – Thank you for sharing him with us drunks at Eastside. His kind smile, humor and love was evident in the way he lived his life sober. My prayers are with you during this time. I hope you can find peace in God’s grace. Jill and Jane Skaggs

  3. Bernie was a great man who cared more about me than I did of myself. He helped me more than I can say. Thank you for making his life happy. Eric

  4. Toni and family: I am so very sorry to read about Bernie’s death. My sympathy goes to each of you. Toni, if you want to ‘just talk’ or think of anything I can do to help you through the next several months, please call on me. Laverne passed away 2 1/2 years ago and I can relate to your loss. My phone # is: 721-7606 Mary Glazier (Former secretary at Little School) I might have sent this twice, sorry.

  5. Toni and family: I was so very sad when I read Bernie’s obit. in the newspaper this morning. I feel like I have lost a former friend and that my distant friends are very, very sad this week. I pray that his death was easy and his suffering minimal. Toni, if there is anything I can do for you, even just lunch, please let me know. I know your devotion to each other was unmeasurable. Take care of yourselves and remember the funs times you spent with your dad. Mary Glazier (vormer secretary at Little school)

  6. It has been years since I had seen or spoken to your father. Yet, the mention of his name brought back many memories. I remember most his passion and enthusiasm about life. He was so warm, vibrant and funny. ‘Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death they would be asked two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in the afterlife. The first question was, ‘Did you bring joy?’ The second was, ‘Did you find joy?’ –Leo Buscaglia How wonderful he could answer ‘yes’ to both.

  7. Dear Toni, So sorry to read of your loss in the paper this morning. Didn’t realize he was ill or maybe his death was sudden. My sympathy to you and your family and I will pray for your own recovery from the loss. May God be with each of you at this very special time. Sincerely with love,

  8. Jeff and family we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Sorry I missed your call Sunday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. See you when you get back to Tucson. Craig, Larry and Kathy.

  9. Toni and family…Bernie was one of our most favorite people in the world. He always made us feel so special. His love for the Lord and how he lived his Catholic faith showed and radiated in everything he did and was a great inspiration to us as parents. He loved keeping Jim posted on the ‘news’ in Hanston….he loved that. He is now rejoicing with all the saints in heaven! We love you and are praying for you! Mary Ney

  10. Dear Dreiling Family: I was shocked and saddended to hear of Bernie’s passing. A little over 20 years ago I met Bernie at my first AA meeting. He took the time to visit with me afterwards and from that day forward became a valued and deeply loved friend. After I moved from Wichita, he stayed in touch and I treasured our visits. I would not be sober today without his help. I am certain there are many many others who will say the same. I always appreciated Bernie’s wit and humor and of course his love for the Jayhawks. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss and that Bernie’s memory will be cherished each day. God Bless. Les Sperling 2852 17th Avenue Lindsborg, Kansas

  11. Toni, How sad we are at the news of your loss. Such fond memories we have of his onry sense of humor and warm smile. So very glad we spent the evening together at the KMC Hall of Fame Dinner. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Chris and Mary Kay Rott

  12. Toni & family, my heart nearly stopped when i read the newspaper obit this AM…and i was instantly transported back 25-30 years in wonderful memory…the laughter, tears, joy and those wonderful marriage encounter days live on in our hearts forever…we are saddened and yet joyful knowing what a good and faithful servant bernie was and the gift of laughter and faith transcends the time and space of this earth…we’ll keep you and Mary & Jeff & Jerry in our prayers. God Love You All…and thank you God for the gift of Bernie.

  13. Toni and Family, I am sorry to hear about Bernie. Talked to his cousin Ron the day of the service and I was working and unable to reschedule my appointments. I want to extend to you and the family my condolences.

  14. Toni, I used to work with Bernie at Office Systems, so I wanted to send my prayers to you and your family. I was just thinking about Bernie a couple of weeks ago. Wondering where he was and doing. My prayers are with you and your family. Zona Shaw

  15. ‘Serenity is having an inner calm in the midst of the ups and downs of life. It involves learning to be content with the things in our life that cannot be changed.’ Comment from The Life Recovery Bible Philippians 4:10-14 Toni, Last Monday at the 5:30 Eastside Group meeting, I led the discussion on the subject of serenity. I shared that Bernie was my sponsor and that he set a standard that we all can use as a measurement for ourselves. I hope that I can be that kind of an example to others. We thank you for sharing Bernie to be a part of our lives. Our prayers are for you and your family. Love, Kathy and Fred Lassmann

  16. Dear family of Bernie, I work at Roger Wilson’s office and everyday since I have worked there (6 years) Bernie called him. I will miss his calls – sometimes he would call to see if I knew a word in the day’s cross word puzzle. I’ll miss his voice and his wit. I did meet him & Tony at a Prime America meeting and they made me feel right at home. I just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers out to you

  17. Those who bloom in the hearts of others never fade away… May you find comfort and strength in your memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

  18. Toni and family, we dearly loved Bernie. Him coming to the office to hide the doughnuts before Toni got back and the golf stories and the KU phone calls by Thom to give Bernie support good or bad. Just know we will miss him. He was a great guy and a super role model. We love you Bernie!!
