Bernard R. “Barney” Murray, 95, retired manager of MS News, died Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, May 15, 2023. Rosary will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 3, 2023, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside Service will follow at Kechi Cemetery. Barney is survived by daughters, Sandra Michael of Clearwater, KS, Reba Burke of Grove, OK and Rikki Palone of Vian, OK; brothers-in-law, Darrell Schmidt of Mission Viejo, CA, Ross Bartholomew of Mesa, Arizona; two nieces; one nephew; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved friends.He is preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Murray, Leona Schmidt, and Jeanette Bartholomew; as well as his parents, Raymond and Lena Murray. A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Barney was my wife’s (Leona Murray Schmidt) brother. He was always ready to offer assistance to anyone he met. He became like a family brother to me. He was one of the very few “straight arrows” that I had the privilege of knowing. He will be sorely missed.

Barney was a good friend to my grandparents and a consistent character in my childhood. I knew him in the 1980’s when he was running MS News. I always appreciated how kind and even-tempered he was.
