Bertha "Bert" Hess, Bookkeeper, died Saturday, September 8, 2018. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 12, 2018; Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 13, 2018, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Walnut Valley Cemetery, El Dorado, KS. Preceded in death by her parents, Lowell Wilbur and Wanda Owena Thompson; husband, Clifford Lee Hess; brothers, Wilbur, Harold, and Doyle Thompson. Survived by her daughter, Shauna (Duane) Viele; grandchildren, Abby and Audrey Viele; special friend, George Phelps; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial has been established with Order of the Eastern Star, Valley Center Chapter #237, 133 N. Sheridan, Valley Center, KS 67147.

Shauna – what a lovely picture of Aunt Bertha. I have always thought of her as such a beautiful woman, both inside and out. I know this past few years have been difficult for her and for you. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Please know that I am praying for your family and for George. I accompany ‘The Funtastics’ and Bert was a wonderful part to our group. We always enjoyed visiting with her. We have missed her and are sorry for your loss. God bless each of you.

Dear Shauna and family, our prayers and condolences are with you. Aunt Bert was such a joy to be with. When I was 5 years old,I remember attending Uncle Cliffs and Aunt Berts wedding.
