Beverly Joann Nicholson

April 21, 1935 ~ July 8, 2020
Beverly Joann Nicholson,
85, was born April 21st, 1935 and made her journey home on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 11th at 10 am, at Downey & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel. Attendance will be limited due to the need for social distancing, but her service will be available via live stream at www.dlwichita.com.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Josephine Cathey; her infant son, Steven Nicholson; siblings Merle “Sonny” Cathey and Betty Glenn; son-in-law Lee Burke and daughter-in-law Joella Nicholson. Her sister Betty passed just 3 ½ weeks before Beverly. She is survived by her children Doug (Mary) Nicholson of Newton, Kent Nicholson of Wichita, Stephanie Burke of Cypress, TX, and Angie (Shannon) Bayliff of Maize. She had 8 grandchildren--Sabrina, Steven, Kyle, Samuel, Eryn, Ryan, Elizabeth and Harrison--and 2 great grandchildren--Gabriel and Kaitlin.
Beverly was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. After retiring from her job at the Dermatology clinic in 1996, Beverly spent time living with each of her daughters, helping to care for her grandchildren. She had a giving nature and a playful spirit. We can remember mom singing and dancing around the house while listening to her old 45’s. She used to sing to her kids and grandkids every morning to wake them up, which was fun when we were 5, but not so much when we were 10! She enjoyed playing games with her family. Canasta was a favorite that she loved to play with her sister. It was important to her that her kids and grandkids knew that they were loved. She never went to bed without saying the words “I love you”. She also instilled a love for God in her family. She had a strong faith in God and prayed for each and every one of her children and grandchildren each night, without fail. We will miss her smile and laughter, but her legacy of love will always be with us.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will miss seeing and visiting with Beverly on our Wichita trips. Thankful that she is with the Lord!
She will be sorely missed. With deepest sympathy and much love, Laban, Becky, Ali and Sam Marsh
We had many good times together both in high school and when our children were young. She was a good friend and a devoted mother. Beverly had a beautiful alto voice and she and I were in a Maize High School sextet, the first group to compete at the state music contest. Beth Ohara was our instructor. Our sincere condolences to her family.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Beverly was a sweetheart. I don’t ever remember seeing her without a smile. She had such a soft-spoken spirit. She raised a beautiful family who, I know will miss her deeply, but we rest in knowing that she is safely home….
