Beverly McCoy

Beverly Ann McCoy, 78, of Wichita, KS passed away on January 17, 2026 surrounded by family after an unfortunate diagnosis of mutated metastatic colon cancer.

Beverly Ann (Howland) McCoy was born on January 28, 1947 to Donald Lee “Bud” Howland and Ardis “Ardie” Mae (Province) Howland in Wichita, KS.

Throughout childhood, Beverly was very close to her siblings and cousins. She frequently spoke of her parents’ trucking business of hauling produce, Howland Produce, then later selling produce at Kenny’s Market on Broadway in Wichita, where they all spent long and hard days working as a family. After Beverly graduated from Southeast High School in 1965, she went on to study nursing at St Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, KS.

After graduating with a degree in nursing she started her first job at Halstead Hospital as a LPN. In Halstead, KS she lived in a house around the corner from the hospital with other friends and coworkers. At the hospital, she was assigned a patient that was her soon to be future father-in-law, Raymond, who stated, “You’ve gotta meet my son!” She then met Mark Brown and later married August 1, 1967.  Beverly and Mark went on to have Delores Ann (Brown) Herzet and Shane Allen Brown born from their love. Staying home to be a homemaker, she and Mark lived in a home on Aloma Street, but soon bought Beverly’s forever residence on Chautauqua Street to which she made her beautiful home full of memories, treasures, and cherished belongings over 47+ years. Beverly was saved and baptized at Riverlong Church in 1989. Beverly then found her soul mate and love of her life, her “John Patrick” in 1990 at Calvary Chapel in Wichita, KS at a Wednesday evening service. Beverly and John McCoy were married June 1, 1991. Devoted to one another so wholeheartedly, creating a perfect example of a faithful and happy marriage.

Beverly dedicated her life to creating a warm and welcoming home for friends and family. She poured such care and detail into perfecting each and every square inch of her home, which changed with every holiday and season of the year, and her seasons of life. Caring for her animals through the years brought her such joy as many four-legged friends have lived in her home over the years, several generations of German Shepards and too many cats to count. Beverly and John had their “dates” going on drives to feed the local foxes. Sewing came naturally to her, Bev could frequently be found in her sewing room making cornbags to give to people, hemming bridesmaid dresses, or sewing clothes for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also sewed hundreds of dresses for a charity organization to donate to girls in Africa. Beverly even sewed her own beautiful emerald green gown that she will be laid to rest in.

Throughout the years, Beverly had many positions that she was proud of, initially working as a nurse, then a homemaker while working at Dillons as a seafood manager, a support volunteer to those with cancer at St Francis, at Hatman Jack’s, a trusted housekeeper, and later working in pastoral care at St Joseph. Although her favorite and most cherished job title was Mom and Grandma Mom (as her first granddaughter Nicole had named her). She cared fiercely and deeply for her family. Beverly is known for her generosity, positivity, caring soul, and kind spirit. Beverly was an amazing baker, most well known for her pies (specifically apple and coconut custard), cookies, cinnamon rolls, and her homemade warm “butterhorn rolls.” She made sure no stomach left growling from her home as she not only fed anyone and everyone, but they were offered seconds, thirds, and even dessert. She fed her son everyday for lunch, her granddaughters at their job at the hospital, and brought numerous people food when in need, and supplied food at any occasion (baby showers, bridal showers, funerals, birthday parties, etc.). Beverly wrote everything down in her beautiful, cursive writing that could be its own font- calendars, notebooks, pieces of paper were scattered anywhere and everywhere that contained names, quotes, scriptures, and important things to Beverly (most of which involved her family and Jesus). She was so proud of her family and told anyone who would listen about it. She was honored to have multiple nurses in the family as that was her initial passion as a young woman, so much so, she helped purchase each of her granddaughter’s stethoscopes for nursing school.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Ardie; and brother-in-law, Greg Stevens. She is survived by her devout husband, John McCoy; daughter, Delores “Dee” (Jeff) Herzet; son, Shane (Sara) Brown; grandchildren, Nicole (Robert Parker) Herzet, Ericka (Elias Garcia) Herzet, Kristen (Michael) Kirkpatrick, Courtney (Robbie) Graham, Audrey (Andy) Renteria, Noah Compton, Kaleb Compton, and Henry Compton; great-grandchildren, Eliana and Ezra Garcia, Josephine, Jack, and Benjamin Kirkpatrick, Kennedy Ann Graham, and Elena and Mateo Renteria; brother, Kenny (Ann) Howland; sister, Jeannie Stevens; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends of Beverly mourn her death.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday January 20, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Life Change Church.
