Carole Jean Kellogg

Carole Jean Kellogg was born on February 2, 1945, in Detroit Michigan. She was raised in Detroit with 7 siblings. Carole graduated from Mercy High School and convinced her father to allow her to go to the College of Mount St Joseph for college in Cincinnati Ohio. While still at the College of Mount St Joseph, she accepted a blind date from a Xavier guy with a cool car. Too bad that guy sold his cool car a week or two before the date. Jack still won over Carole, and they married June 1, 1968. They soon started a family and were joined by Lynn (1969), Mike (1970), Kim (1975) and Matt (1978). Carole was a jack of all trades; she was a teacher, coach, friend, confidant, athlete, mom, and wife. Carole taught high school, and was the girls basketball coach, at the beginning of her career, took time off while the kids were young and then returned to teaching at the local elementary school. This translated into working to expand the computer department in East Lansing. She was always an active volunteer when the kids were young, including Girl Scouts & PTA. She retired when the family moved to Plainwell, Michigan. Carole did not take retirement lightly, she volunteered for the red cross, was a member of the Kalamazoo Garden Club, golfed with the local golf league and was a member of the Women’s Western Senior Golf Association. Carole was also very active in the Lake Doster neighborhood association. Carole and Jack also used their retirement to travel throughout the US, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, and Italy. Instead of the normal wintering in Florida or Arizona, Carole and Jack wintered in Mazatlán Mexico, their last time in Mexico was in 2020. Carole and Jack are grandparents of Carly and Mackenzie Anderson, and Gretchen and Wyatt Kellogg. They have immensely enjoyed and are proud of being grandparents to these 4. Carole is survived by her husband of over 54 years, John (Jack), Lynn and Michel (Mike) Anderson, their children Carly and Mackenzie Anderson, Kim Kellogg, Matt and Val Kellogg and their children Gretchen and Wyatt. Her sisters Virginia (James) Sachs and Nancy (Tom) McPhail. And numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 5 of her 7 siblings. Carole was also preceded in death by her son Michael. Rosary will be 9:30 am, Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, both on Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary

  1. I will always cherish the time spent with Carole when spending lake weekends at the house with her and Jack. Carole (and Jack) were the bests hosts. Many laughs and good times were had with them.

  2. We will miss Carole and we have her in our prayers. We also have Jack and the Kellogg extended family in our prayers as well. May God Bless you all. Mimi and Garrett Frey

  3. When I moved to Lake Doster Carole was one of the first people who reached out to me. She welcomed me to the community and was always friendly in the golf league. I was amazed at her volunteer spirit.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know she leaves a huge hole in your hearts but I also know that she was a woman of faith. She passed it on. Be comforted knowing she is at peace and she is with you.

  4. Jack and Family, I am so sorry to learn of Carole’s passing. She has done so much” GIVING” in her life too so many causes, but especially the Lake Doster Community. I always think of Carol when I pick up my copy of the Lake Doster Directory, as I still have the last printed edition & rely on it often. Jack you have also done so much for the Lake Doster Community and I miss having you around. Please stay in touch and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Virgil Williams

  5. Carole was a special lady….she had a servant’s heart and was more than willing to help any one..she was great friend and we were blest to have her as part of our group of friends, while we lived at Lake Doster , and the friendship continued on after we left Doster.
May the Lord bless her husband, Jack and her children as they continue on without her…but know they’ll see her in heaven.
God bless them all, especially her husbandJack.
    Joe and Ann Cunningham

  6. Jack, our sympathies to you and the whole family. Carole always had a smile that could light up a room. I hope in the coming months your memories of her will bring a smile to your face instead of tears.
    Sincerely,
    Herb & Beth Ayres

  7. Our deepest sympathy to the Kellogg family. We have fond memories of volunteering at Lake Doster with Carole and Jack for many years. She was always willing to give a few more hours to a project for the benefit of our community.
    You will be missed, Carole.
