Catherine Lanell Hoggard

Catherine Lanell Hoggard of Augusta, Kansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 29, 2021. She was born to James “Albert” and Josie Wilson in the Calamine, Arkansas area and was often called “Toot” by her loving family. She married Leon Hoggard February 16, 1956, and shortly after moved to the Wichita, Kansas area where they had three sons together, Steve, Wayne, and Jim. Leon and the boys would return from a long day of hunting or fishing and they were greeted with a full meal ready for them on the table. Lanell was such a good cook that the friends of the boys would try to be around at dinner time, and if they missed it, they would ask for a piece of her pie or cake, because they knew she would always have some ready. Lanell was famous for her peanut butter bars and fried chocolate pies, which she either always had on hand or would whip a batch up at the request of her kids or grandkids. She was elated when the grandkids started arriving and took every chance to spend time with them. The grandkids share great memories of sleepovers, making Christmas cookies, playing cards, taking walks with “lions and tigers” about, playing beauty parlor, fishing, and summer vacations with their beloved grandmother. Holidays and special occasions were a wonderful time for the whole family because Lanell would take great care in decorating the house, preparing exactly the right recipes so everyone had their favorite dish and the family could enjoy being together. Lanell enjoyed watching her “stories”, gardening, sewing, and quilting, going to garage sales, and spending time with her family and friends. Leon and Lanell were among the founding members of Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Wichita, where they made lifelong friends with the other members of the church. Words cannot express the loss that the family is feeling, but hope comes from knowing that they will once again be reunited with her in Christ Jesus. She is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Josie Wilson; brothers, Shelby Wilson, Wandon Wilson, Denver “Frit” Wilson, and James L. Wilson; sisters, Vera Hoggard, and Juanita Hoggard and grandson, Austin Hoggard. Survived by husband Leon Hoggard; sons, Steve (Anna) Hoggard, Wayne (Nicole) Hoggard, Jim (Jamie) Hoggard; grandchildren, Jessica (JR) Salter, Jennie (Ralph) Fredrickson, James (Celeste) Hoggard, Tiffany (Jeremy) Blank, Jesse Hoggard, Trenton Hoggard, Dustin Davis, Angela Davis, Melissa Davis and Dylan Hoggard,17 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Barbara), sisters, Jan (Bob) McCullum, Donna (Jim) LeMaser. A special thanks, the family would like to express their indescribable gratitude to Anna Hoggard for providing superior care to Lanell for the past three years in the home, around the clock.
