Schoenhofer, Charles T., 85 years old, was born to eternal life on Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2006. A Rosary service will be held on Monday, June 26, 7:00 P.M., at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Funeral Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, Tuesday, June 27, 11:00 A.M. Charles was born February 2, 1921 in Walnut, Kansas to Carl and Catherine Matilda Schoenhofer. Charles was one of eleven children. He attended Parsons Junior College, where he competed in their basketball program. While in school, Charles also worked for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad (KATY). Charles was then drafted in the U.S. Army, during World War II, where he served as a wartime Sergeant, Detached Enlisted Mens List. Much of his service was spent in the Aleutian Islands, on the island of Attu. Just last year, Charles received a letter of thanks from the Governor of Alaska, for his faithful service during the Battle for Attu. Following his tour, Charles returned to Kansas, where he began selling clothing. In 1952, Charles and his partner, Hugh Stevens, purchased the Kau Kau Korner, a poplar diner in east Wichita. In June of 1960, Charles and Hugh bought the rights to Kentucky Fried Chicken for Sedgwick County. Soon thereafter, Wichita was introduced to Kau Kau Kentucky Fried Chicken, a business which thrives even today. This month, Charles celebrated his 46th year as a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisee. Exceeding all business accomplishments, Charles excelled mostly as a father, sibling and friend. Anyone who met Charles was enriched by the experience. Most of the restlessness of souls today comes from not knowing why they are here, or where they are going, and they refuse to take time out to solve that problem. Even until his last breath, Charles worried not for himself, but for those he was to leave behind. Charles is survived by his children, Mary Ann, Mark, Charles, Denis, Carol, Barbara and Patricia; 14 grandchildren; siblings, Margaret, Claire, Larry, Art and Bill. A Rosary service will be held on Monday, June 26, 7:00 P.M., at Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
