Borger, Rev. Clarence J., beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, mentor, friend and fisherman, born September 9, 1917, in Rosalia, KS, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2011. Services are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7th, at First United Methodist Church of Wichita. Rev. Borger graduated from Southwestern College (Winfield) and received his Bachelor of Divinity Degree and M.A. from SMU (Dallas). He began his ministry at First UMC of Wichita in 1942. He also pastored churches in Newton, Hutchinson and Valley Center, and served as the Wichita area UMC District Superintendent. Upon retiring, he returned to First UMC Wichita where he faithfully served as a Pastoral Associate until he was 90. Rev. Borger is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Willa Mae (Nida); two sons, William Joseph of St. Louis, and James Thomas of Andover; their wives, Lori and Shari; and three grandchildren, Brianna, Thomas and Alec. The family thanks Gracious Senior Living and Rivercross Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarence and Willa Mae Borger Scholarship Fund at Southwestern College, 100 College Ave., Winfield, KS, 67156. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

Jim, Shari and family – Although I did not know Clarence, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. Clarence sounds like he was a great man, based on the tributes others have sent. May you be comforted by our loving God, the best source of hope in times such as these. I hope your good memories of Clarence will make your grief easier to bear.
In this difficult time of sorrow, may you find peace and comfort in your memories. We are so glad to have been a part of Clarence’s life. We will always remember backyard picnics at our house with your fantastic homemade ice cream. The best memories are of friendship and great times visiting with your both. He will be missed.
