Clayton R. Duerr

Former Valley Center resident Clayton R. Duerr, 71, passed away February 9, just shy of two weeks before his 72nd birthday.
Clay was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Clayton Joseph and Rosella Duerr. After attending college at the University of New Orleans, Clay spent his 20s traveling and spending summers in Colorado, before settling in Wichita, Kansas, to start a business and raise his two children.
For 30-plus years, Clay was owner and contractor of Prairie Pools and thrived in the design and building of swimming pools for Wichita residents. A constant tinkerer, Clay enjoyed spending time on his farm working on various projects and being followed around by his loyal canine companions. With a love of travel and learning, Clay looked forward to family vacations and, in his later years, annual road trips with his daughter. He is survived by his wife, Janet West; son, Matthew Duerr; daughter, Erin Duerr; and sister, Judy Castor.
A visitation with family will be held at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, on Tuesday, February 15. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, KS 67202.
