Connie Albers, 85, died Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 16, 2023, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church - Chapel.Connie Sue Stephens, second child of Carl and Lorene Stephens, was born in her great grandfather's tobacco barn in rural Kentucky. When she was 7 years old, she moved with her parents and older sister, Jackie, to Hammond, Indiana. Connie was a self-professed Tomboy and loved climbing trees and playing ball with the boys on the street. In high school, Connie played basketball and was a synchronized swimmer, and was a certified swimming instructor. She enjoyed weekends with her family at Kentucky Lake where she was quite skilled at water skiing. Connie graduated from Hammond Highschool in 1956 and then went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Company. It was there that she met her life-long love, Donald Albers. They were married on February 14, 1959.Don soon took a job with General Motors which sent he and Connie on the move for 30+ years. Along the way they adopted two children, Stephen and Jacquie. When Connie brought these children into her home, she told them they were extra special because of how much they were wanted and loved. She made sure her children had the teachers, learning experiences, resources and support that enabled them to realize the full potential of their talents and abilities. Everyone knew how proud she was of her children, as she constantly sang their praises. For her husband, she shone as a beautiful, charming and dedicated helpmate. Her extended family was dear to her heart as well, and she kept those bonds alive by regularly visiting relatives all around the country.Connie was a top selling real estate agent in Lansing, Michigan and continued to work in real estate when they moved back to Texas upon Don's retirement from GM. Connie enjoyed playing tennis and golf, even beating Don with a hole-in-one! Connie also enjoyed sewing, square dancing, studying her Bible and volunteering as a CASA advocate for children in need. Over the years, Connie and Don travelled extensively and enjoyed many adventures together.Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lorene; sister, Jackie; and her husband, Don. Connie is survived by her children, Stephen and Jacquie; and 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends.Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

  1. Dear Stephen and Jacquie, I am sad to hear of the passing on of your beautiful Mom. She has been on my heart for like the last month 😞. I have always admired her since I knew her. I think it was maybe grade 4 at Kenwood school. She was always beautiful inside and out. I know that you will miss her greatly.
