Crow, Kathleen (Carey), 81, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, at University United Methodist Church, 2220 N. Yale, Wichita. The oldest child of Sam and Sibyl Carey, she was born on a farm in rural Valley Center, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister. Kathleen went to grade school at Park Elementary and attended high school at Valley Center, graduating in 1946. Kathleen went to Kansas State University, where she met her future husband, Larry Crow. At. KSU, she was a member of the Clovia (4-H) sorority. In her senior year she married Larry Crow at the U.S. Naval Air Station Chapel on December 25, 1950. She then returned to KSU for her final semester, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Home Economics. When her husband Larry returned from the Korean Conflict in 1952, they started their family. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Kathleen stayed home until the youngest of their five children was in school. She taught first grade at Maize for fourteen years. Kathleen was a member of a prominent sextet group called “The Mello Mrs.” who sang for many public groups, PTAs and for the KS Legislature. She was a member of University United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of United Methodist Women, the church choir, and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also a member of a Homemakers group in Wichita. Survivors include: Larry, husband of 59 years, and five children; daughters, Debi and (Fred) Lieb of Ft. Meyers, FL and Susan Crow of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Randy and (Colleen) Crow of Valley Center, KS, Tim Crow of Glenwood, IA and Steve Crow of San Francisco, CA; sister, Karen and (Steve) Hummel of Manhattan, KS; brothers, Paul and (Helen) Carey of Valley Center, KS and Larry and (Geri) Carey of Issaquah, WA. She was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren, Erick Lieb, Garrett, Benjaman, Shannon, Mitchell and Wesley Crow, Olivia Maiers, Tyler, Montana, Scout and Ruby Crow; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the University United Methodist Church, 2220 N. Yale, Wichita, KS, 67220, the East Wichita Shepherds Center, 4407 E.
