Dale worked various jobs including the Missouri State Highway Department until enlisting in the United States Air Force in November 1951. He was sent to Lackland AFB in Belleville, IL, to attend electronic maintenance school for nine months. Before leaving to serve in Korea, he and his girlfriend, Bette Mecomber married on October 11, 1952. After retirement, Dale and Bette enjoyed traveling across the United States and to Europe. After learning his ancestors came to the United States from Switzerland, he located his third cousins and many more relatives living in Riva San Vitale, Ticino, Switzerland. He and Bette would travel back to visit them several times, even taking one of his children and grandchildren so they could know their history. They loved taking grandkids with them on their trips across the United States.

Guestbook

  1. Rest Dale, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Air Force, Korean War.

  2. Dad, I thank the Lord our God, for your peaceful rest until He comes to take our souls to Him forever. You had a long, wonderful journey here on earth and I am grateful for all you taught me. I learned the meaning of hard work through your actions and building and fixing many things, and my favorite – gardening. I can say in honor of you, I’ve had a garden all of my life which has brought me great joy. But the best life lesson you taught me is to rise through my despair and begin again.

I’m also thankful you invited Ashley, Alli and I to travel with you to Switzerland, not only to meet distant cousins, which I’m grateful for, but also because I’ve learned about some of our amazing history, how old and far back our history goes, even adding pieces of the puzzle to the worlds true history. Even you inspired my family to venture into many countries and has now passed down to my children which also brings us all great joy.

I love you for all of these reasons and more. Until we are all together again, rest peacefully until our Lord takes us to Him.
