Dallas R. Barrett, was born August 9, 1931 in Helena, Oklahoma, to Roy and Helen Barrett. They moved to Wichita when Dallas was ten. He told Marita "the sun always shines when we cross the Oklahoma State line" on each trip to their lake home at Grand Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lowell "LA", and sister, Marvel. Survived by his wife, Marita; daughter, Valarie (Kent) Long; son, Brian (Rose) Barrett; five grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; niece, Bonne Salyer, and his beloved furbaby, Sugar. Dallas enjoyed a successful career in the electrical wholesale business that included the electrical design of the old Federal Building in Kansas City and received a draft deferment twice by the Base Commander as he was one of two electrical designers at McConnell Air Force Base in the early 1950s. He was so proud of his family and loved being with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Dallas was a past President of Rolling Hills Country Club, which was his home away from home for 45 years, and loved playing golf with his social group, the "oilfield trash". He and Marita traveled every year to an island to play golf and play in the ocean. He never met a stranger and was always full of pranks and stories. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Memorials are to Kansas Humane Society and Rolling Hills Country Club in Dallas memory.
