Danny Eugene Close, 63, associate professor of communication at Wichita State University, died at home in Wichita on Saturday, May 28, 2022. He is survived by his children, Meaghan Smith and Martha "Moss" Close; former wife, Laura Kelly; brothers Patrick Close and Edward Close; sister-in-law Diane Close; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Oreta Holder Close and Darrell Dan Close.
His life will be celebrated at 3:30 P.M., Friday, June 3, 2022, at Downing & Lahey West, 10515 W. Maple, Wichita. In recognition of his love of education and journalism, memorials may be made to the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University, and public radio station KMUW.

Danny only ever made me laugh and think. Those were his two gifts to everybody, I do believe. He had a special talent for seeing exactly who everyone was and being decent all the time anyway. His Wichita knowledge was encyclopedic. He’d sing about the teacher we both had in different grade schools, appropriating exactly the right rock n roll lyric. So smart. So funny. He lived his life in a way that made being human seem like a very good thing, and passed that rare quality to another generation as well. Dagnabbit, Danny, too soon. Condolences to everyone who made him who he was.
