Daryl Dirks

Daryl Dirks, 74, December 13, 1941 - November 5, 2016. Daryl D. Dirks was born in Dodge City, KS and raised on a Ford County dairy farm. Daryl knew he would not continue farming and proceeded to study fine arts and business at Bethany College. He was drafted into the Army in 1964 and after his discharge, moved to Denver, Colorado where he met his wife, Betty. Daryl and Betty moved to Wichita, KS where Daryl began working for Laurco Fabrics which Daryl and Betty purchased and ran together for three decades. Daryl was active in his church and the community. Survived by daughter, Kirsten Barnard of Denver; son, Eric Dirks of Kansas City; grandchildren, Declan (11), William (9), Veronica (8), Eli (6); and brother, Norvin Dirks of Littleton, CO. Preceded in death by wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Dirks; mother, Esther Dirks; and father, Carl Dirks. Memorials to Downtown Wichita YMCA Strong Kids “Daryl Dirks Memorial” (a charity near and dear to Daryls heart) 402 N. Market Street, Wichita, KS 67202. Vigil will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016. Both services will be held at the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, 4910 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, KS. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
