David J. Smith, 74, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully in the presence of his children and his priest, Fr. Doug Campbell.
A Vietnam era U.S. Marine Corps veteran, David served as an Avionics Technician, a field he continued to work in as a civilian, as well as computer programming. He was known for his sharp intellect, curiosity, and love of learning. His passions included music, computers, cooking, science, and science fiction.
He is survived by his son, Zechariah Smith; daughter, Sarah Carpenter; and grandchildren, Makayla, Declan, Alison, and Damien.
Rosary will be at 9:30 am, Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Borkenhagen.
He died as he lived—an honorable man.
