David Joseph Gegen, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories. He was a devoted husband to Joanie, a loving father to Gabrielle (Jason) McClure and Lyndy (Kristopher) Volker both of Leawood, KS, and a doting grandfather to Sophia and Stella McClure, William, Samuel, and Edward Volker. Survived by sisters, Marilyn (James) Smith of Tempe, AZ, and Carolyn (Dennis) Maze of Wichita; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Cletus Gegen, and brother, AJ Gegen.
A man of unwavering faith, David was a devout Catholic and dedicated parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Parish his entire life. His faith was not merely a belief but a guiding force that permeated every aspect of his life, shaping his values and actions.
Family was everything to David. He enjoyed vacations, family gatherings, and times with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. He loved his time on the golf course with his friends and sons-in-law.
David served his country in the Vietnam War with the Army before beginning his 20-year professional career in the banking and financial industry. Utilizing the expertise he developed, he then acquired his own company, manufacturing athletic sportswear to universities, high schools, and major retailers across the country which he ran successfully for 20 years before retiring.
Wichita WagonMasters, Wichita Youth Home, and American Cancer Society were just a few organizations that he served to give back to his community.
David's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
