Dean Means

GROVE, OK - Dean Howard Means, 70, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at his home in Grove, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, Downing and Lahey Mortuary West. Charlene Micelli will officiate. Dean was born on February 4, 1939 in Maud, Oklahoma to Howard and Harriet (Turner) Means. He graduated from West High School in Wichita in 1957 and completed the apprenticeship program at Local Union #171 now #441. He married Florence Smith in Pittsburg, KS on November 19, 1960. Dean worked as a piping supervisor for Central Air Conditioning Co. for forty years before his retirement in 2001. He was a 50-year member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #441 in Wichita where he served in many capacities and on many committees. Dean loved fishing, high school football, and OU football and basketball. He had a strong affiliation with the Special Olympics in Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Florence Means of the home; children, Scott Means of Pine Mountain, CA, Dee Ann Simon and Gina Snapp both of Andale; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Air Capital Flyers in Wichita or Good Shepherd Hospice of Grove, Oklahoma.
