Dean Stine passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the age of 91. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Immogene Stine and his daughter, Marla O’Nelio. He is missed and will be fondly remembered by his wife, Helen Marlene Stine; his son, Steve (Terri); his brother, Jerry (Carole); his grandchildren, Nick O’Nelio, Dommi Locke (Christian), Shea Stine (Mary Kate), Taylor Stine (Kirstie Ruff); great grandchildren, Ozzy, Geno and Iggy Locke; nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends. Dean was born on the family farm east of Edna, Kansas on March 10, 1932. After graduating from Edna High School, Dean enlisted in the Navy on June 1, 1952, and served in the Korean conflict. Shortly after joining the Navy, Dean married his high school sweetheart Marlene on September 21, 1952. While Dean was out at sea, Marlene resided in San Diego where their first child Marla was born. After his service in the Navy, Dean and family moved back to Kansas where he began his career with Southwestern Bell. Shortly after their return, they welcomed their son Steve into the family. Over his 35 years of dedicated and hardworking service with the phone company, Dean’s various jobs took the family throughout the state of Kansas where they met many cherished lifelong friends. Dean loved his work and all the colleges he met along the way; his family and attending his grandkids sporting events; and the Kansas Jayhawks. Dean, lovingly known as Deano and Poppa was loved and known for his great sense of humor, his loyalty to family and friends, his willingness to help at any moment, his simple humble way of living, and his flawless character. 1. Fair winds and following seas sailor. “Boatswain… Standby to pipe the side… Shipmate’s going Ashore…” Thank you for your Dean service to this nation. U.S. Navy, Korean War.

  2. Marlene, Steve and family,
Our condolences on the passing of Dean. As you know, he and or dad/husband, Clyde crossed paths in the early 50’s, as both were on board the USS Sheilds (DD596) based out of San Diego. The two buddies remained close over the years, especially enjoying times during the Sheilds reunions at locations around the country. Imagine the laughs and stories from those fellows. We have much to be thankful for from their friendship! The Orth Family, Viginia & sons.

  3. I feel very blessed to have known Dean for almost 50 years. His daughter Marla became a close friend of mine when Dean re-located his family to Dodge City in the mid-70’s. Dean was a very special person I wanted to remain close to throughout life, even after the passing of Marla. His humor, wit, intelligence, and hard work ethic were always apparent to everyone who knew Dean. But the deeper qualities of humility and moral character were what drew many to hang on to Dean for life. Those were part of his fiber. He was an inspiration to many. I was fortunate to be part of those many people who saw Dean as someone very special.
God bless Dean. I know HE has. I picture he and Marla together in laughter.
My thoughts are with Marlene, Steve and family, Nick, Dommi and family and all those who were blessed to call him family and friend.

    Margie and Jack Livingston
