MEAD, DENNIS L., 58, loving husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, ā€œDā€, and faithful Christian, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2007. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7 at Downing Lahey Mortuary West in Wichita. He was preceded in death by father, Dale W. Mead, and brother, Leland R. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Anita Mead; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Doug Heit of Garden City; mother and stepfather, Wanda and Charles King of Glen Elder; brothers, Larry of Mt. Hope, Rex of Garden City, Arlyn of Beloit; sisters, Sharon Thomas of Pratt, Susan Schindler of Beloit; nephew-like-a-grandson, Jacob Weber of WaKeeney. Born February 19, 1949 in Garden City and raised on a western Kansas farm near Garden City, he continued an appreciation for the outdoors throughout his life and always respected the land. He was a craftsman at ICM, Inc. in Colwich, a member of Ogallah Christian Church, a licensed private pilot, member of the Eagles Lodge, and a volunteer helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity along with other ICM employees. As a very young man in high school, he enjoyed annual summer trips with his father and brothers working across several states with his fathers custom wheat cutting business. He liked working with his hands, and he and his wife enjoyed working together on many home projects throughout the years. He loved working at his job with colleagues he considered friends, and spending time with family, all his animals, fishing, camping, and building performance racing vehicles. He lived most of his life in Garden City. He and his wife moved to Wichita in 2003. Memorial donations may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Having lost touch in the past few years, I was shocked to read of Dennis’ death in the GCTelegram. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, especially Anita and Tiffany.

  2. I ran across the news of Dennis passing while perusing the GC Telegram online. It was very sad news. We were classmates in the one-room schoolhouse of Sunrise, with a total enrollment of 14. I later hauled him and his brothers to school on the bus I drove after consolidation into the Jennie Barker system. Lots of fond memories there for me over quite a few years. My condolences go out to all of his family, and please know that our prayers will be for you.

  3. Tiffany and Anita, please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your father and husband, Dennis. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Annette Smith

  4. Anita and family, I was deeply saddened to learn about Dennis’ passing. My prayer is that God will grant you His peace in this most difficult time for you. From a friend of the GCHS Class of 1967.

  5. With deepest sympathy we send our condolances to the famiy of Dennis Mead. May God watch over him till we all meet again.

  6. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you as you struggle through this difficult time. Thinking of you. Love, Jana

  7. My deepest sypathy to you and your family. I didn’t know that you had moved to Wichita. My wife and I have lived here since 1989. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Donald Proffitt

  8. As we struggle to try to understand the suffering and trials that come to us in this world, we must hold onto God’s promise that he has a plan for our lives. He loves us and we will one day join Him and our loved ones in Christ to spend eternity free from pain and sorrow and filled with His joy! Love Stacie

  9. Anita, I am so very sorry to read about Dennis. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It has been such a long time since we have spoke, and it came as quite a shock, when i read it in the paper. Take care and feel free to give me a call if you need a shoulder!! Love ya, Deb Danler

  10. My prayers are with you in this time of grief. Know that Dennis is in God’s hands now and we will see him again. In Christ James Heit
