Dick Murphy

Murphy, Dick, 88, Allstate Insurance agent and owner of Dairy Queens in Augusta and Wichita, died Monday, March 3, 2008. Memorial service 1:00 P.M., Saturday, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. A graveside service will be held in Protection, KS at a later date. Dick was a professional baseball player who was inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He was also an avid golfer. Preceded in death by sister, Mildred. Survivors: wife, Virginia Ruth (Burton) Murphy; sons, Bill and Lana Murphy of Wichita and Tom and Candy Murphy of Protection, KS; daughter, Sally and Randy Selzer of Protection, KS; grandchildren, Monica and Heath Vanderheck, Melissa and J.D. Patton, Brian Murphy, Joe and Hilary Murphy, Doug Murphy, Jennifer and Jake McClure, Ben Murphy and Ryan and Christina Selzer; great-granddaughter, Molly Murphy. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Alzheimers Association, 347 S. Laura, Wichita, KS, 67211 and American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS, 67211.
