Dee was born at home in Hardtner, KS to Aymer and Alfreda Achenbach during the Great Depression. She was the oldest of three daughters and is preceded in death by her sister, Pamela (Larry) Ellingson and survived by her sister Annette (Steve) Cade. Dee is survived by her husband of 70 years Vernon Miller. They were introduced by a friend and classmate at East High School who later served as best man at their wedding on November 26, 1955. Dee attended college at Oklahoma A & M and Wichita State University.

During Vernon’s service in the US Air Force, they were stationed in California and later in France where they enjoyed traveling in Europe and England. Their son Brent was born prior to their military service and they welcomed a daughter, Shellie, upon their arrival back in the states. Dee is survived by her son, Brent (Becky) of Wichita, KS and daughter, Shellie (Brian) Regehr of Iola, KS. She especially loved spending time with her two grandsons, Chase and Cole Regehr.

A talented residential interior designer she spent many years working at Marion Alley Interiors where she enjoyed her creative work and became friends with many of her clients throughout her long career.

She was an active member of her community and gave generously of her time through volunteer work. Dee was a designer for the Wichita Symphony Showhouse projects, and performed in plays for Wichita area grade schools helping bring arts and education experiences to local students. She was a proud member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, a member of the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum and active member of St. Michael Orthodox Church.

Dee loved to dance and took ballet, jazz and tap lessons at Workshop East School of Dance and performed until her breast cancer diagnosis at age 50. Dance was a very important part of her life!

She loved nature, especially bird watching, flower gardening, cooking, and reading. Dee and her family enjoyed vacations, with many road trips across the country in their VW camper bus.

Dee was an inspiration to all her family and friends for her years of immense courage in facing her many medical challenges due to breast cancer while keeping a positive attitude from her strong faith. Her warmth, humor, love and kindness touched many lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.
