Dolores “Dee” Finkstein Abels, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, September 22, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary. Dee will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Dee dedicated much of her life to caring for her relatives and was cherished by all. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gerald Abels. She is survived by her three daughters, Jody Abels of Dallas, TX, Julie Abels of Atlanta, GA, and Marcia Olmsted of Houston, TX. Dee also leaves behind two loving grandsons and their wives, Ricky (Randi) Olmsted of Houston, and Randy (Abby) Olmsted of Durham, NC. Her great-grandchildren, Molly and David Olmsted of Houston, TX and Henry Olmsted of Durham, NC, brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her nephews, Barry Abels of Ft. Worth, TX and Marc Abels of Ashkelon, Israel. A long-time member of the Hebrew Congregation, Dee was an active participant in the Jewish community of Wichita. She was an avid supporter of WSU basketball and rarely missed a game in over 50 years. Dee’s presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Hebrew Congregation, 1850 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, KS 67208. Dee wanted everyone to know she would rather be at a basketball game.
